Germantown Municipal School District
Germantown, TN
A2H
The 36-acre campus includes a headquarters building for the school district, a K-5 Elementary school, playgrounds, lake, parking, and separate circulation routes for the district headquarters and elementary school bus and car traffic. The choice to build a two-story classroom wing reduces the impact on the site by reducing the building footprint.
Wetlands and forests remain untouched along the eastern boundary to conserve natural habitat. A 300 year old oak tree was also saved as part of the campus plan. The natural habitats and retention pond also serve as outdoor environments for learning.
My role led a collaborative design process with regular input from district leadership, faculty, and staff followed by documentation with civil and landscape team members.
A 300 year old oak tree was conserved as part of the history of the site.
Learning gardens and wetland habitat provide opportunities for lessons in nature and science.
A bioswell and protected wetlands on the site conserve natural resources and habitat while serving as an outdoor learning environment.
Landscaped islands provide shade and capture rainwater throughout the parking lot.
Landscaped courtyards and natural forests provide connections to nature from the heart of the building.
Playgrounds, fishing pond, and trails serve as safe outdoor recreation for students and the community.
